Concours D’Elegance Launches in Delray Beach

Break out your favorite beret and uncork that bottle of Burgundy, a little bit of Paris is coming to Delray Beach this June.  No, Delray Beach isn’t replacing it’s beloved 100-foot Christmas Tree with a replica 100-foot Eiffel Tower.

The inaugural Delray Beach “Concors D’Elegance” arrives June 18th thanks to the vision and passion of founder and lifelong Delray Beach resident Max Zengage.

What exactly is a “Concours D’Elegance” you may ask. “Concours D’Elegance” defined, means “Competition of Elegance” and is used to describe an event where the most prestigious of vehicles are on display.

Originating in 17th century France, the event started as a gathering where Aristocrats paraded around horse drawn carriages in the parks of Paris during the summer and on special holidays.

Fast forward to 2022, there are currently 42 Concours events around the world where some of the most unique and incredibly rare automobiles and motorbikes are on view and in competition. Now, Delray makes number 43.

“More than a car show, this incarnation of Concours is a community show” says founder Max Zengage. “The event itself is free to the public, but those displaying their classics pay an entrance fee to compete. Those proceeds benefit four local Delray Beach based non-profits: Achievement Centers for Children And Families, Community Classroom Project, Community Greening and Delray Citizens for Delray Police.”

The event, new to the Delray scene, is creating quite a buzz.

“Delray Beach is the perfect place to launch a Concours event. We have a large group of friends who display our cars in events in Jupiter and Naples, it’s exciting to have an event of this magnitude here in Delray!” says local Delray resident and muscle car enthusiast Rob Morgan.

Delray Beach classic car afficionado Brian Walker believes “this is an excellent, much long overdue idea. Delray Beach definitely has its car culture and I see unique old... and new cars regularly here driving in town. Perfect beach town event”. Brian will be exhibiting two of his personal classics at the Concours: A 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL with Hard Top on along with his prized 1995 E36 BMW M3 Coupe in the very sought-after Black on Black--the same car that was in the film Fast & Furious.

Along with exotics, muscle cars & other rare vehicles, there will be live entertainment, lots of food & vendors at the event as well. “The goal was to make this not just an event for car enthusiasts, but for everyone in the community,” says Zengage.
